Milliken Mills East

Milliken Mills East is located south of Markham City and borders Scarborough, Toronto. It is a community heavily influenced by Chinese culture. The Pacific Mall, the largest Asian indoor shopping mall in North America, is located at the junction of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue.

Community Overview

Milliken Mills East runs from Kennedy Road on the West to Highway 407 on the North, Steeles Avenue on the South, and McCowan Road on the east. Three significant roads, 14th Avenue, Highglen Avenue, and Denison Street, run through the Community from east to west. And Brimley Road runs through the Community from North to south.

1. Housing:

The main housing stock in Milliken Mills East consists of freehold single detached and Link houses, primarily developed between 1980 and 2000. Most homes have three to four bedrooms with single or double-car garages. Bigger houses with land frontage over 60 feet and three garage spaces are concentrated at the northwest corner of the Community. There are also a few condo townhouses and mid-rise condo buildings along Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue.

2. Demographic:

Milliken Mills East is an Asian-dominant Community, with over 58% of the occupants Chinese and 28% from other parts of Asia. About 10% of renters live in the Community.

3. Transportation:

Public transit is readily available. Several TTC and YRT bus routes are along Steeles Avenue, McCowan Road, Denison Street, Kennedy Road, and 14th Avenue. Milliken Go station is also within a 5 mins drive from the neighborhood. Bordering express tollway 407, Milliken Mills East is also close to highway 404, allowing car commuters to quickly get on the route and conveniently travel in all directions.

4. Recreation:

Several small parks are well-distributed across the Community. Aldergrove Park, Denison Park, Wilclay Park, Armadale Park, Tillie Square Park, and Randall Park offer soccer fields, baseball diamonds, basketball courts, tennis courts, and children's playgrounds. Milliken Mills Community Centre also furnishes an indoor soccer field, a swimming pool with a whirlpool and sauna, a dance studio, an ice rink, and a public library. Located in the Toronto neighborhood community, Milliken Park Community Recreation Centre and Milliken District Park present outdoor kids' playgrounds, an indoor Gymnasium, walking trails, and picnic sites. For golf fans, Markham Executive Golf Club is an 18-hole golf course northeast of the Community.

5. Shopping:

The largest Asian indoor shopping mall in North America, Pacific Mall, is located at the junction of Kennedy Road and Steeles Avenue where visitors can find hundreds of stores and restaurants. Splendid China Mall, south of Pacific Mall, has about 150 stores, many restaurants, and a no-frills Supermarket. Shoppers can also first First Choice Supermarket and Sunfood Supermarket along Kennedy Road.

6. Schools:

Milliken Mills East has three elementary schools serving students from GK to grade 8. Randall Public School admits students north of Denison Street, Aldergrove Public School accepts students living southwest of the Community, and Wilclay Public School intakes students living southeast of the Community. The Community belongs to the Milliken Mills High School zone. Established in 1988, Milliken Mills High School ranks top 10% among Ontario's 700 schools. In 2017, Milliken Mills High School, Alexander Mackenzie and G.W. Williams SS, and Maple HS joined Bayview SS as the board's IB Diploma Program schools.

Milliken Mills East is close to highways, making commuting to other parts of GTA straightforward.
